Blue Jackets Keep Playoff Hopes Alive with Win Over Capitals

The Columbus Blue Jackets kept their Stanley Cup playoff hopes flickering on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over the Washington Capitals in Washington.
The Ohio team has moved to within three points of the Montreal Canadiens, who currently hold the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Both teams have two games remaining in the regular season.
Needing to win every game, the Blue Jackets secured their fourth consecutive victory. Adam Fantilli scored twice for the visitors, who initially fell behind 1-0 after Alexander Ovechkin’s 43rd goal of the season. Zach Werenski and Dmitri Voronkov also found the back of the net.
“We’re responding the right way right now. We keep winning the games we need to win, and we’ll see what happens,” said Werenski. “It’s one of those situations where you can only control what happens for us, and that’s the games we play. Everyone’s been dialed in for the last three or four games. We know we have to win or go home, and everyone’s stepping up their game.”
Playing his fourth game in five nights, including one with the Cleveland Monsters, goaltender Jet Greaves defeated the Capitals for the second time in two days with a 29-save performance. Charlie Lindgren made 19 saves for the Capitals, who have already clinched the 1st seed in the East.
The Montreal Canadiens will have a third opportunity to secure their playoff spot on Monday when they host the Chicago Blackhawks at the Bell Centre.
