Murray Edwards: Calgary Flames Co-Owner Ranked 6th on Power List

Murray Edwards, Calgary Flames co-owner, secures the 6th spot on The Hockey News’ Power and Influence list. This annual ranking highlights the top 100 influential figures in the hockey world. The list includes executives, owners, agents, media personalities, and players.

Edwards climbed from 7th place last year, reflecting his growing impact on the hockey landscape. Only Gary Bettman, Marty Walsh, Bill Daly, Jeremy Jacobs, and Connor McDavid rank higher. Edwards is the highest-ranked Canadian team owner and second among all team owners.

Edwards joined the Flames ownership group in 1994 during a major leadership transition. He, Alvin Libin, and Allan Markin remain active from the six original owners added that year. Since 2008 or 2009, Edwards has served as chairman of the Flames’ ownership group. He also holds a position on the NHL board of governors’ executive committee.

The Hockey News list release featured a rare interview with Edwards conducted by publisher W. Graeme Roustan. Typically, Edwards lets the Flames’ executives, like Ken King or John Bean, handle public commentary.

This recognition underscores Edwards’ lasting influence in shaping the NHL and Calgary Flames’ legacy.
